Dog owners love their puppies. Heck, everyone loves puppies! They’re cute. They’re cuddly. They’re a wonderful addition to a family and home. But, owning a puppy isn’t without frustration.
New puppies are prone to peeing on carpet before they are house trained and dog urine stains on carpet can be very harmful if not attended to.
If your puppy peed on your carpet, don’t despair! Waukesha Carpet Cleaning Blog has some great tips to to help remove pet urine stains from carpet.
Timing is of the essence when dealing with all carpet or fabric stains, but even more so when it comes to removing pet urine. The faster you attend to the stain, the better chance you have at preventing it from becoming permanent. If left uncleaned, pet urine can seep into your carpet pad and create an odor that will remain there. Even worse, the odor will be a signal to your puppy that that area of carpet is OK to continue peeing on.
White Rags or Cloths
Use a white rag, cloth or napkin to blot up the urine stain. Rags or napkins are best as you can simply throw them out once you’re done using them. It’s best to avoid colored cloths or those with printing or patterns to avoid any kind of bleeding into the wet area.
Apply light pressure around the edges of the stain in order to absorb as much of the urine as possible without spreading it to other areas of the carpet. Replace the rag or cloth with a dry one if need be and continue the process until the area is no longer damp.
Vinegar is an excellent alternative to harsh cleaning chemicals or detergents, and it is cheaper too! Simply combine a half cup of white vinegar with 1.5 cups of lukewarm water and mix them together. Next, drizzle the mixture over the pet urine carpet stain and let it soak in for somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes.
Once 10 minutes has passed, apply the same blotting technique from above until the area is no longer damp and free of both the urine and solution.
Some websites recommend the use of ammonia in order to remove pet urine odor from carpet. We however do not advise this. If used incorrectly or excessively, ammonia can potentially cause an unwanted color change in your carpet.
